oh England…ur flavor announcer dude is hilarious
“if I saw the likes of [roller girls] I’m like to run a mile” …this will probably not work if they are on wheels and you are not
First scrimmage is tomorrow in Oneonta and I am so turbo excited its stupid. I also incidentally strained the muscle that joins my butt and thigh so yuckies!!! Just gotta REALLY warm up tomorrow and ice it tonight like woah!
I was told to use rubbing alcohol. But I heard they’re bad for them? I was just wondering what some of you guys use.
MY ANSWER:
I use rubbing alcohol, and so far have had no issues with it. The reason people say rubbing alcohol is bad for your bearings is because if you don’t dry them off very…
My teammate said that as long as you use 95+% alcohol by volume your bearings wont rust. It’s worked wonderfully for my bearings, the trick is to get a high enough alcohol percentage.
The scrimmage was a-freaking-mazing!! shout out to the Oneonta Roller Girls for hosting the scrimmage and challenging us with every jam. I really hope that our leagues can continue to grow and have a great relationship :D
Things I need to work on:
1. Endurance!!! I think I’m gonna be signing up for the NYC skating marathon, its like the running one just …on skates. They also have a special derby division which is awesome. Training for a marathon such as this one will deffly improve my endurance.
2. Blocking, lead with my hips! I keep going with my shoulder which just gets me in trouble because i push off and get an elbow minor…pretty sure if we were keeping track of everything I woulda had at least two majors…oops!! I do think my blocks cleaned up as the scrimmage progressed.
3. Pack Work. I really suck in a pack and feel turbo ineffectual because I always get stuck either out in front or in back…gotta pay more attention!!
those are the things I noticed the most because everything else was such a blur. Focus on one thing at a time, boo yeah!
Just passed my 3Months and now just have to take my writing test to be a full member of Albany All Stars Roller Derby!! : D
Now the most important detail to Derby Life: NAME and NUMBER!
CHZ BOMBLETTE #M67
the number is the name of a frag grenade that the US and Canadian armed forces used in WWII that took 4.0-5.5s to explode and whose fatality radius was 5m(16feet, roughly). Which means watch out if i’m about to jam up on ya! :P boom! the name is a mixture of a play on my first name(Bry or rather Brie in a cheese sense) and omlette that is so good its a bomblette. I am just as quirky as my name suggests.
Other than that I can’t wait to be able to just skate again. been doing land exercises but the knee still hurts after awhile. so frustratinnngg!!!
